Canvas Notifications

Each person in Canvas has the ability to modify their notifications in two ways, one at the Account level and one at the Course level.

The Account level notifications apply to all courses. Notifications for individual Courses can be changed within each course and will override the Account-level notifications.

Account Level Notifications

To modify your Account level notifications, start here:
https://barringtonschools.instructure.com/profile/communication
If you see a green calendar icon, that notification is enabled. If you see a “crossed-out bell”, that notification is off.

You will see a list of various types of notifications for Course Activity, Discussions, and more.  Each will also allow you to choose from one of four types of notification.

Click the Calendar to choose how/when to get notifications.  To turn this notification off, choose Notifications off for all.

Continue for each possible notification.

Note: there is no Save button on this page, so when you make a selection Canvas will auto-save your decision.

When you have finalized your notifications, you can return to the dashboard: https://barringtonschools.instructure.com/

Course Level Notifications

To modify your Course level notifications, log in to Canvas and from the dashboard select the course where you want to modify the notifications.

Once you've selected the course, you should see a button labeled View Course Notifications at the right side. (If you don't see it on the right side scroll down the page) Click on the button

Remember that these settings will override what may have been turned off at the Account level.

The toggle button will allow you to easily enable/disable course notifications. In the image below, course notifications are turned  off.
